The earth runs on solar power. Green plants, and only green plants, convert light energy into food: photosynthesis is a miracle that makes possible every living, breathing creature that exists. There are aspects of the earth system/environment that are closed—for example, the water cycle. But the earth itself is not a closed system (it is solar powered), and moreover, it is not just a "sustainable" system, it is a regenerative system: it produces energy in excess of what it consumes, and the result is an abundance and a variety of life. It has the highest albedo (index of reflected light) of any planet in our solar system: we are the "bright planet." What would happen if we looked at our human systems (body, self, culture, family/social systems) from the perspective of "regenerative?"
